I have no opinion one way or the other, but maybe to satisfy both parties
it could be posted on just rec.radio.info - that seems like a VERY

Please give me some ideas on the best ways to feed antennas through walls,
windows without trashing siding, walls etc. Does anyone make an energy
efficient
device that you can put in a window that could feed all types of antenna
lines. Does anyone have plans for such?

As is the case with automobile antenna installations, the best advice
is to *get out the drill*, however, you can use a block of wood as
a feedthru in a window if your lease won't let you drill the wall.
Drill the wood, put it in the window, and close the window against it.
If you don't mind replacing the glass when you move, you can also just
*drill the glass* for your antenna feedthrus. (Note there are tricks
to successfully drilling glass. If you don't know them, consult someone
who does.)

One IRC is first class (surface) postage from any IPU country to the US.
Note that not all countries belong to the IPU (International Postal Union).
For most countries you really want air mail, and that is where things get
difficult. The Air Mail rate ranges from 2 to 10 IRCs depoending on the
country (of course the ones where surface mail is awfull want 10 IRCs :-)
This changes from time to time, so you need to check the K6JO (?) QSL
managewr list or a recent callbook for the latest info.
BTW *never* buy IRCs fromthe post office, send a check for $10 to a QSL
manager and ask to buy some IRCs - he gets more than the post office will
give him and they cost you less! When I last did that they were around 30
cents apiece that way.

OMETEPE (NICARAGUA) 94 DX EXPEDITION
February 25,26,27, 1994
The island of Ometepe is located in Lake Nicaragua, the third largest
lake in Latin America. It is said to be the largest island in the world
within a lake. The island is dominated by two volcanos, 1610 meter
Concepcion, and 1394 meter Madera, and has a population of 35,000
people living within its 266 square km. area.
The following is excerpted and translated from a message from YN1TV to
N1AW (YN1ASW):
On the island of Ometepe there are no radio amateurs, which is a big
problem for those OMs who want a QSO with all the islands of the world.
This is the reason we are going to invade Ometepe and attempt to put
it on the air on HF using packet, RTTY, CW, and SSB. The expedition
will camp at the place known as San Marcos, 8 km from Moyogalpa, on the
shore of the Great Lake of Nicaragua. It is an ideal location for
experiments with antennas.
The expedition will be on the air from 0000 UTC Friday February 25,
1994 until 1100 UTC Sunday February 27.
The call for this DXpedition will be H70O Hotel Seven Zero Oscar, which
has been officially solicited for the Club de Radio Experimentadores de
Nicaragua (CREN).

If you travel in your own, or your company's, car, you'll be much happier,
as will all those who have to listen to your signals, if you install a
mobile rig and proper antenna rather than trying to make do with a HT.
If you use rentals, you may be stuck with a HT, or a "bagphone" equivalent
consisting of a small mobile rig such as the Icom IC229A, gell cell,
cigarette plug adaptor, and a magmount antenna. You won't have satisfactory
results with just the rubber dummy load that comes on HTs except in rare
locations, and their low power, susceptability to intermod when used with
an outside antenna, and low audio output will make you miserable in the car.
With the proliferation of 440 MHz activity in much of the country, you
may also want to consider a dualband radio. I consider Alinco the value
leader for function per dollar, but Yaesu and Icom also make good radios.
I don't particularly like Kenwood VHF radios due to a history of problems,
but others seem to think they're acceptable. If you're set on a 2 meter
only HT, then the Radio Shack HTX202 is an excellent value with good
intermod rejection. Most of the others on the market today try to pretend
that they're GP scanners as well as two way radios, and thus suffer the
problems inherent in wide receiver front ends.
My choice in my vehicle is the Alinco 590, and my HT is the Yaesu FT470.
Both perform acceptably for the uses to which I put them. I wouldn't
consider using the HT in the car, however, since it's wide front end
causes it to suffer extreme intermod when used on an external antenna.

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
I got the QRZ CDROM a month ago on the internet "special"
offered by Fred. This was the best use of money for ham
radio for under $20.
This CDROM should give Buckmaster and the others a run for
their money, since they are at the $50 level.
I use the UNIX (tm) version of the callbook. During one
run of 25 calls that I looked up for QSLs to stations worked
during a QRP contest, it took less than 3 seconds on a workstation.
I did this by creating a script with the lines
call k5fjz k5jkb ... (for five calls)
call xxxxxx xxxx xxx
with five calls per line, since the program halts every five for
<cr> as it assumes it's in an interactive mode from a terminal.
I plan on submitting the data base for ALL 180,000+ US cities
and a C program to do great-circle bearing calculations for the
next verions of the QRZ CDROM. The data base alone if more than
5MB!!!
Anyway, my $0.02 worth of publicity. I'm NOT paid for this
endorsement, just another happy satisfied customer.
There are a lot of other programs and data bases on the ROM,
but I haven't had time to play with them yet.

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Haven't felt it was appropriate to get back in the
middle of the debate, but I was very offended at the comments made
directly at me. People on the network and across the country know me..
I have never had anyone call me a liar, and to my knowledge haven't
had any problems with anyone I have personally dealt with
(giving and receiving information, and buying and selling equipments).
I have people calling many nights during the week to ask for help and
ask general questions.. haven't had a problem with any of them.
I am always most willing to "look in the mirror". Been happy with what I
see. What I related on the net was a documented experience I had with
John Ramsey, no more, no less. It was based on facts not fiction and had
nothing to do with his personal being outside the realm of my experience
with him. When I called him a "liar" I think I specifically related the
lie he told me.. this seemed reasonable. I was also very offended that
he was saying things to customers on the phone that were negative about
me (also documented). In contrast, I don't know of an instance where I
have lied to ANYONE... it is not something I think is a good attribute
and never do it knowingly. I think I was not negative about the building
of the Ramsey kit and remember specifically saying I thought the
building of it was in fact fun up till the final alignment (so please be
accurate when you attempt to call someone a liar with absolutely no
information).
I know I am not in the least guilty of any immoral or unprofessional
behavior...and think it may be time to let this drop.. I was just trying
to relate an experience to help people avoid problems I personally
encountered. I have heard MANY other people relate problems with this
company or I would have not said anything to start with.
73.. this is suppose to be a supportive, fun hobby .. isn't it.

For Christs sake Jeff. Give it a fucking rest.
I voted for Bush both times, how about accusing me of murder since I had
a hand in electing the Commander in Chief that ordered Desert Storm?
By the way, lists of frequencies used by various agencies are published
in books and magazines in most electronics type stores. How about telling
me that Radio Shack promotes jamming the police. Heh?
Tom Kneitel (spelling?) pushes his frequency compendium by splattering
the word SECRET in 3" high caps across the cover. How about it? Is he
promoting jamming various services? Perhaps instead he could be accused
of aiding and abetting drug dealers by publishing the DEA comm channels.
Since you seem to have to have the last word, and constantly stir up shit
over non-issues how about we create a new newsgroup for you.
rec.radio.pendantic
Simple and efficient. You can cover amateur, CB and commercial without
cross-posting. You might even get a few of the others with a flair to
the verbose to join you over there.
Bottomline disclaimer for the humor impaired. Yup, I used the F-word.
If you're too lazy to scan the news before forwarding it onto the RF

Nice try Dana, but you're the one who seems to follow me from one news-
group to another commenting on MY posts. You're the one who wants to
play the role of Public Defender. Inflame newsgroups? Nope. But I'm
not going to hide my head when I suspect someone has broken the law.
Recall I was a radio officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. I am VERY sensitive
when I suspect foul play in the air. For years at Group Monterey Station
we had to put up with jamming on 2182 kHz (world-wide MF voice distress
frequency) and occasionally even on VHF ch16. I didn't put up with it
then and I won't put up with it now, whether it occures on or off
the ham bands.
If you see me chastising someone for suspected illegal operation, feel
free to hit the `n' key. But If you're going to attack me, expect to
receive a few comments yourself.
It seems ``you can dish it out but you can't take it''.

Sorry but ``from the context'' it was never suggested that Shoupe intends
to abide by any regulation. Recall he took delight in bragging about
his illegal past activities.

Yep. He's the one who bragged about his outlaw activites.

No Myers, you're the one with a vendetta. ``Get over it.''

Not true. ``... completely false assertions...'' is completely false.

Good. Then disregard this need you have of coming to the rescue of
those who I suspect and chastise for illegal operations. Let them
defend themselves. Twice on rec.radio.cb you've felt the need
to defend someone (the linear amp thread and the 6MHz air-to-ground
frequencies post) that I took exception to. Leave me alone and
I'll do the same.

>If Mr. Herman wishes to condemn me for this stance, fine. However,

Hmmm, when I mentioned the personal vendetta you had against me back
in December, you're response was, I believe, `get over it'.
Again, if you want a truce then let the suspected illegals defend
themselves.
